Hunger remains a persistent challenge in SSA, with millions of people suffering from food insecurity and malnutrition (Chiaka & Zhen, 2021). This is a significant problem in the region that requires urgent attention as it challenges the region’s progression towards sustainable development. This challenge of hunger and food insecurity in the region is further compounded by the confluence of co-existing problems such as climate change and socioeconomic inequalities which create a complex web of vulnerabilities (Tamasiga et al., 2023).
